Eddie Howe refuses to rule out Liverpool striker’s late exit

The transfer window closes in five days, but a lot can still happen before then.

Teams are still looking to strengthen their squads and big changes could happen in the final stages of the transfer window.

One of the players linked with a move away from his club this summer is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.

The English winger has been linked with a move to Liverpool, but there are currently no talks between the clubs despite there being serious interest.

However, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has not ruled out the possibility of his players leaving the club in the short term.

The Magpies manager claims football is an unpredictable sport and he is not a fortune teller who can predict the future.

Howe said, quoted by the Express:

“I’ve been in the business too long to make such statements.

“What I will say is, from my side and the club’s side, we will do everything to keep our best players, but I am not a fortune teller. As managers, we learn to live in this world because we have to. But it is not ideal, a lot happens.”

Howe’s comments will cause concern among Newcastle United fans, who have seen little transfer activity at the club this summer.

The Magpies have been quiet about their transfers despite adding depth in defence and goalkeeping.

Newcastle United cannot afford to lose Gordon to Liverpool

Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi has had four bids rejected but they are still determined to bring the England international to St James’ Park.

In fact, fans are hoping that no big names leave the club in the final week of the transfer window.

In a summer of financial uncertainty, keeping their key players at the club was vital and Newcastle have succeeded so far.
