During The Midnight Walk you take a hideous ceramic boy on a grim walk with clay mates

Hey, remember Lost In Random? I reviewed it a long time ago and loved the Burtonesque setting and story, but it felt a little reliant on bland combat. Moonhood Studios, founded by the creators of LIR, announced The Midnight Walk during last night’s PlayStation State Of Play showcase . And it looks like it’s continuing their appreciation for the dark and strange. Case in point: it’s a first-person adventure game in which you play as The Burnt One, who must guide a hideous weed creature through a twisted universe.

The hideous pot creature is called Potboy, and you must use his flame “to light your way through a conflicting world of wonder and horror.” In the trailer, an old dude says “Who took away the sun?”, suggesting that this clay world has long been lost in darkness (cue flashbacks to Elden Ring’s Shadow Of The Erdtree lore). And that’s why all those drooling, wrinkly nasties want a taste of your Potboy’s flame.

What’s pretty special is the art style, with everything sculpted from clay and scanned into the game. It’s also combined with stop-motion animation, giving the world a suitably lumpy feel.

It looks like the game’s story will be split into “five tales of fire and darkness” and you’ll encounter a bunch of weirdos on your late night stroll. Like a house on stilts, a guy in a big hat, and a guy with an umbrella. Otherwise, it looks like we’ll be able to wield a matchstick like it’s a shotgun and have Potboy shoot some sparks out of his head to light up the paths?

We don’t know much more yet, but what I do know is that I’m cautiously excited about it. It’s coming to Steam sometime in 2025, and will also be on Steam VR. For the VR version, it looks like it will use eye-tracking, allowing you to close your eyes “to focus on the sounds and manipulate the world around you.” Huh.
