Drake Maye has scored his first touchdown in the NFL.

After failing to reach the end zone in his first practice game, the New England Patriots quarterback managed to score on the ground against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

The Eagles won 14-13, but Maye received some praise after the game from Eagles star Jalen Hurts:

The quarterback’s best play came in the second quarter, when he completed a four-yard rush that gave the Pats a 10-3 lead.

In total, he carried the ball four times for 15 yards and passed for 47 yards, completing six of his 11 passes.

Maye’s passing skills were on full display when he played in the NFL after a successful career at North Carolina, but he reminded fans he has the athleticism to be dangerous on the ground Thursday.

Drake Maye has the kind of athleticism we haven’t seen in New England in a LONG time

While Maye’s bread and butter is finding receivers through the air, he could establish himself as a solid rushing threat as he continues to develop. During his time with the Tar Heels, he amassed 1,140 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. He’ll look to take the ground attack to the next level with the Patriots.

So far in the preseason, Maye has 66 passing yards on 8 of 13 passing, along with 15 rushing yards and a touchdown. He has seen limited action in two games, but he has given fans confidence that he can have a successful rookie year if the Patriots look to him this season.
