Dr Disrespect’s former games company hit by ‘significant’ layoffs

Midnight Society, the game studio originally co-founded by embattled streamer Guy Beahm, aka Dr Disrespect, and responsible for creating DEATH DROPSannounced today that it is cutting its staff after a tumultuous few months, including financial troubles and the forced departure of the Doc after he inappropriately messaged a minor.

Co-founder Robert Bowling released a statement on Midnight Society’s Discord server on September 10 announcing a “significant reduction in staff” due to “multiple unexpected challenges over the past few months.” Bowling added that these measures “are designed to strengthen our foundation and renew focus on our core mission,” and that DEATH DROPS is still on track for a 2025 release, but that Midnight Society would share “revised plans and milestones” in the coming weeks.

DEATH DROPS Content creator JOK5RR claimed on X/Twitter that “around 50 percent” of the new gaming studio has been laid off, but Midnight Society did not share exactly how many staffers are out. It’s a brutal but not unexpected outcome for the DEATH DROPS team that kept quiet following the allegations and Beahm’s subsequent admission that he used Twitch’s messaging system to explicitly message a minor in 2020.

Beahm was dropped by Midnight Society when allegations arose in July 2024, the same allegations that Beahm, despite initially pleading guilty, is now fighting. His diehard fans are too, with many responding to today’s firing announcement with “I told you so” and blaming the original whistleblower who caused Beahm to come forward. Regardless of what happens with Beahm’s return to streaming, he will almost certainly not be returning to Midnight Society in any capacity.

As for AADROP (a vertical extraction shooter announced in 2021) is still scheduled for a 2025 release. We’ve seen DEATH DROPS However, playtests have been delayed in the past and with the staff expected to be halved, further delays could doom the shooter.
