Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler was “unknowingly” robbed of his guard while at Santa Anita Park

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler was robbed of his watch at Santa Anita Park on September 28 in an incident that remains under investigation by police.

The Arcadia Police Department issued a news release Tuesday stating that three separate grand theft incidents by “multiple organized groups” occurred on September 28 around 5:30 p.m. at the horse track.

“In one incident, a victim was walking among a large crowd of customers. While walking among the crowd, the victim was surrounded by a group of unknown suspects,” Arcadia police said. “These suspects restricted the victim’s freedom of movement, causing confusion. While the victim’s freedom of movement was limited, one of the suspects was able to remove the victim’s watch from his wrist. After removing the guard, the group of suspects dispersed and left the area. That’s when the victim realized their watch had been stolen and reported the incident to Santa Anita Park security. The victim was not threatened at any time during the incident.”

In a second incident that took place that day, a victim’s watch was also stolen while walking through a large crowd. It wasn’t until several hours later that the victim realized his watch had been taken.

In the third incident, a victim was approached by three suspects. One suspect attempted to hug the victim while a second began to remove the victim’s watch. The victim realized the watch was being removed and when confronted, the suspects fled the area.

Park security was notified and Arcadia police were able to take one of the suspects, 24-year-old Camilo Nino-Hernandez of Los Angeles, into custody.

Nino-Hernandez was arrested for grand larceny and also charged with possession of a fraudulent Social Security card.

The identities of the victims were not released by police, but Buehler’s office sent a statement to Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports confirming that the pitcher’s watch had been stolen that day at Santa Anita Park.

“After Walker’s last regular season start on September 27 (ed. note: Buehler’s last regular season start was September 26), he and several other players did not travel to Colorado for the final regular season series. That weekend, Walker and his wife, McKenzie, attended horse racing at Santa Anita Park. As he walked from the paddack (sic) to their seats, Walker was unknowingly the victim of his watch being stolen. The incident has been reported to the police and is currently under investigation. We are grateful that Walker and McKenzie were not harmed and Walker is focused on the playoffs.”

Buehler will start for the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLDS against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday at Petco Park. The series is tied at 1-1.
