DJI Neo leak reveals how temptingly affordable the tiny drone can be

In an unboxing video by Italian YouTuber enontheroad, the hardware of DJI’s entry-level drone, the DJI Neo, has been revealed. The product’s suggested retail price and release date are also discussed.

From the video, it appears that the FPV-style ‘baby’ drone Avata 2 is already available in some markets, despite not being officially revealed yet. Enontheroad was able to get their hands on one in Malaysia, alongside the recently announced HoverAir X1 Pro.

enontheroad wasn’t able to fly the drone in the video, which isn’t a surprise since the product isn’t official yet. But it did reveal the Neo’s FPV-style design in the apparent unboxing, as well as a price and release date it says it was told by DJI representatives (see the video, in Italian, below).

DJI Neo Price Rumors and Teased Release Date

According to enontheroad, the DJI Neo will start at just €199 (that’s around $220 / £167 / AU$325) in the Eurozone. We’ve already seen rumours that a DJI Neo Fly More Combo kit, which typically includes extra batteries, a charging hub, and an upgraded controller, will cost almost double that, at around $350 / £295 / AU$550. enontheroad claims it’s been told the Fly More Combo will cost around €350.

DJI leaker @Quadro_News joined the rumor mill, sharing on X (formerly Twitter) what appears to be DJI’s official teaser for the Neo (see below). It reveals that the product announcement will take place on September 5 at GMT+8 (that’s 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm UK time).

However, the three-second video reveals the product name as Neo, which would be an unusual move by DJI for a teaser video, so we can’t yet know for sure if the teaser is real.

If the rumors about the DJI Neo’s price are true, it could be quite a bargain.

There are plenty more Neo rumors suggesting it could be one of the best drones for beginners. It’s DJI’s smallest drone ever (DJI’s Ryze Tello notwithstanding), at about half the weight of the Mini 4K. What’s more, it’s ready to fly out of the box, equipped with AI subject tracking and DJI’s QuickShots flight controls.

If the rumors are true, it won’t be long before the Neo takes to the skies.
