Disney+ Cancels Star Wars: The Acolyte After One Season

Earlier this year, The Acolyte debuted on Disney+ to impressive streaming numbers. But despite an open-ended first season, Disney+ has reportedly canceled The Acolyte and the Star Wars series will not continue.

Per Deadline , the decision to end the series comes just over a month after The Acolyte concluded its first season. The show was the first live-action Star Wars project set in the High Republic era and starred Amandla Stenberg in a dual role as twin sisters Osha and Mae.

While The Acolyte was an obvious victim of review bombing, that wasn’t what the series ultimately did. The show’s two-episode premiere in June drew 4.8 million viewers on its first day, marking the highest Disney+ premiere of the year. It climbed to 11.1 million viewers in its first week. However, The Acolyte’s momentum fizzled after its third episode, and it dropped out of the top 10 streaming charts. The season finale returned to the top 10 with 335 million minutes watched, perhaps the lowest ever for a Star Wars finale.

Series creator Lesley Headland has shared some ideas for The Acolyte Season 2. But unless Lucasfilm decides to adapt that story into a novel or comic book, the ultimate fate of the surviving characters may not be revealed.
