Diogo Jota falls on the couch

Liverpool will look to continue their positive start to the 2024/25 season under new head coach Arne Slot on Wednesday evening when the Reds host Bologna at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League.

The Dutch coach has impressed everyone at the Merseyside club since taking over from the legendary Jurgen Klopp ahead of the current season. The former Feyenoord boss is currently top of the Reds in the Premier League and has wins in Europe and the EFL Cup.

Liverpool won 3-1 at AC Milan last time in the Champions League and impressed at San Siro.

Slot’s men are looking to go two-for-two in Europe with a win at Anfield on Wednesday, giving the Premier League club a good chance of finishing in the top eight of the competition.

The Merseyside club beat Wolves 2-1 last time out and the Dutch coach has made just one change from the team fielded at Molineux, with Diogo Jota replaced by Darwin Nunez.

There were concerns about the fitness of Jota and Andy Robertson ahead of the Bologna game, but the Scottish star is fit to start against the Italian side, but the Portuguese forward is only fit enough for the bench.

Liverpool confirmed he started 11th

As for Bologna, the Italian side enjoyed a historic campaign under Thiago Motta last season, which resulted in the Rossoblu He qualified for the Champions League for the first time in sixty years.

However, after losing their manager to Juventus in the summer and key players such as Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal and Joshua Zirkzee to Man United, the 2024/25 season has not started the way Bologna fans would have liked.

Vincenzo Italiano’s team is currently thirteenth in Serie A with one win in six and drew 0-0 against Shakhtar Donetsk last time in the Champions League.

The Italian side drew 1-1 against Atalanta last weekend and Italiano made four changes for their trip to Anfield, with Lykogiannis, Aebischer, Fabbian and Castro replaced by Miranda, Moro, Urbanski and Dallinga.
