Diamond League Final: GB’s Daryll Neita Second in 200m in Brussels

Meanwhile, there was further frustration for Britain’s Molly Caudery in the women’s pole vault as she narrowly missed out on a podium finish.

Caudery, who had been eliminated from the Paris Games qualifications due to a zero score, jumped a best distance of 4.80m in Brussels and came fourth. Olympic champion Nina Kennedy jumped 4.88m and claimed victory.

Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon won the women’s 1500 metres to claim her fourth straight Diamond League title and her fifth overall.

The 30-year-old, who broke the Olympic record when he won gold in the 1500 metres in Paris, was put under heavy pressure by Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji but crossed the finish line in a record time of 3 minutes and 54.75 seconds.

Olympic silver medalist Jess Hull of Australia came in third.

Britain’s Georgia Bell, who won bronze in Paris, and Melissa Courtney-Bryant finished seventh and ninth respectively.

Olympic men’s 200m champion Letsile Tebogo missed out on her fifth straight Diamond League victory of the season after being defeated by American Kenny Bednarek.

Bednarek, who won silver in Paris, finished just 0.13 seconds ahead of Tebogo in a time of 19.67.

Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic was third in 19.97, the only other athlete to run under 20 minutes.

In the men’s high jump, Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi recovered from his Olympic disappointment to take victory.

Tamberi, the 2020 Olympic champion, could only finish 11th in Paris as his preparations were hampered by illness and injuries.

But he regained his form by jumping 2.34 meters to beat Oleh Doroshchuk of Ukraine. South Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo came third.

The final event of the evening concluded with a convincing victory in the women’s 400m hurdles, with Dutch Olympic bronze medalist Femke Bol claiming her fourth consecutive Diamond League title.

Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was ruled out of the event as she had not yet competed on the Diamond League circuit this season.
