Diablo 4 players criticize Runewords as ‘boring way to smuggle in ‘power creep”

Diablo4 Players who experienced the Season Six PTR aren’t convinced that the bland, lackluster Runeworlds system will do enough (or be creative enough) to truly increase its power when it arrives in the game. Ship of hate expansion update.

Rune words return to the Devil franchise in Diablo4 Patch 2.0, but it may not generate enough buzz as players are now debating the effectiveness and playability of the system. Many believe that the current system is simply a boring way to add power creep; it all boils down to there being no point in having fun and being creative with the runes as only a few combinations are actually valuable, and they naturally push the “do more damage” playstyle.

This Runeword system, which Blizzard claims would be a way to Diablo4 players to increase the power of their characters by creating their own skills already falls short for players. Some not only felt it was copied Diablo 2’s archaic rune system without giving it a fresh look or ambitious crafting aspects, but many believed that the so-called “nice” rune combinations were simply not powerful enough and that the boring combinations were stronger.

These gamers aren’t the only ones who find the Runewords system lacking, with Raxxanterax, one of the most popular Diablo4 content creators and guide experts, who already call the current Runework system ‘average’ and explain that there is a lot that can be improved to actually make this a viable system for the future action RPG.

There are many ways Blizzard could change this system for the better. Players would like to see more special effects added, better options tailored to skills or core features like Thorns of Damage over Time, the ability to craft and create armor based on specific Runewords, and less of a gap between overpowered and average runes.

Of Ship of hate Launching on October 6th, it’s unlikely that Blizzard will tweak the Runeword system before release, if they decide to change everything. According to player reports, Blizzard hasn’t implemented any feedback regarding the system from the closed alpha, meaning they likely won’t implement any feedback from the PTR before the expansion goes live.

So we can safely assume that the PTR’s boring and unimaginative Runeword system is what we got on day one in the Ship of hate. However, we will not know for sure until the Ship of hate Patch notes and PTR changes will be announced early.
