Derek Jeter Production Company plans to expand its Hollywood footprint

New York Yankees legend and Fox Sports analyst Derek Jeter has launched a production company, Cap 2 Productions (a reference to his number with the Yankees and his role as the team’s captain), hoping to capitalize on the interest in sports-related content of TV channels and streaming services.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first with the news.

“It’s not just some random company that was created because we said, ‘Hey, we want to go into production now.’ This is an extension of what has been built over the past decade,” Jeter said THR in his first interview to discuss Cap 2.

Jeter said Cap 2 will build on what he did when he co-founded it The Players’ Standa digital publication known for its first-person accounts from athletes.

Cap 2, represented by WME, has already developed baseball-related projects with TV and streaming partners. It is one of several production companies founded in recent years by sports superstars such as Tom Brady, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Serena Williams, Peyton Manning and Steph Curry.

Jeter said THR he wants Cap 2 to prioritize telling family-friendly stories in documentary and scripted formats, saying he is “closely involved in everything and every decision. And it will remain that way.”
