Demi Moore on the Impact of the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Bikini Scene

Demi Moore reflects on her career after starring in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle alongside Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.

“What’s interesting is that I felt (criticism) more as I approached 40. I had Charlie’s Angelsand there was a lot of talk about this bikini scene, and it was all very exaggerated, there was a lot of talk about what I looked like,” Moore told Michelle Yeoh for Interview magazine. “And then I found that there didn’t seem to be a place for me. I didn’t feel like I didn’t belong. It was more like, I’m not 20, I’m not 30, but I wasn’t what they saw as a mother.”

After playing the role of Madison Lee in 2003 Charlie’s Angels sequel, Moore questioned her place in Hollywood.

“Where do I fit in? It was a time that didn’t feel dead, it felt flat,” Moore said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever done that when I’ve encountered something that I didn’t understand was a limitation.”

She continued: “There was a point, I have to say, where I started to question whether this was really what I was supposed to be doing. Maybe that part of my life is finished. Not even over, but finished. And then I realized that if I’m going to question it, then I have to inject it with energy so that I know for sure.”

McG directed the action film and Moore played the film’s villain, a former angel turned independent.
