Delhi Police head constable attacked in Greater Noida, six arrested for attempt to murder

A 45-year-old head constable of Delhi Police was allegedly attacked by a group of people over an old rivalry in Greater Noida’s Dadri area on Monday, police said on Wednesday, adding that a case under relevant sections of attempt to murder registered against four identified and two unidentified suspects at Dadri police station on Wednesday.

Police said the complainant, Sudhir Chand Bhati, 45 years old, a resident of Nayi Basti village in Dadri, Greater Noida, has been posted as a head constable at the DCP East Office of Delhi Police. He is also a retired army personnel.

In his complaint to the police, Bhati said, “On Monday around 11.30 pm, when I was going to my agricultural fields in Dadri in my SUV, suspects Ankit, Devendra, Vikal and Mohit, all of whom have the same name, and two unidentified suspects. stopped me.”

“When I saw that the suspects were carrying rods, I tried to call the police but they started hitting my car. When I tried to escape through the opposite door, suspect Ankit shot at me but I escaped the bullet. During the next round of shooting, his gun malfunctioned and they attacked me with rods and sticks,” he said in his complaint.

When Bhati became unconscious after the assault, the suspects left him bleeding and fled. “During the investigation, it emerged that Bhati and the suspects have been in a dispute since 2020. It was over this rivalry that he was stopped and attacked,” said Amit Kumar Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Greater Noida.

‘Bhati’s brother was accused of murder but after investigation he was acquitted and his name was also dropped from the charge sheet. Ever since his brother’s case, the relationship between Bhati and the suspects was not good,” said a police officer, who did not wish to be named.

ACP Singh said, “Bhati suffered injuries on his head and hand. He is out of danger and based on his complaint, a case is being filed under sections 191(2) (rioting), 190 (unlawful assembly), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 131 (punishment for assault), 109 (attempt to assault) murder) and 324(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Dadri police station on Wednesday and efforts are on to arrest the suspects.”
