Deebo is confident that off-season weight loss will not affect his performance

Deebo is confident that off-season weight loss won’t affect his performance, originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Deebo Samuels’ remarkable offseason weight loss has garnered a lot of attention, but the 49ers All-Pro wide receiver is confident it won’t negatively impact his trademark physique.

During an interview with Kay Adams on the show “Up & Adams” after Friday’s workout, Samuel was asked how much weight he’s lost. The star receiver, however, wouldn’t give a figure.

“I don’t know. Enough,” Samuel said to Adams.

Samuel is known for being incredibly difficult to tackle by opposing defenses, and he is confident that this will not change anytime soon, regardless of his physical transformations.

“It doesn’t matter how much I’ve lost, how much I’ve won,” Samuel said. “That’s not going to change.”

Samuel further explained that despite his weight loss, his muscle mass has remained intact and compared his body to that of two 49ers teammates.

“It’s weight, but not muscle,” Samuel explained. “I still have the Nick Bosa quads, Brock Purdy quads. So yeah, overall pretty good shape, just ready to be ready for Week 1.”

Adams jokingly suggested that Samuels’ jersey change from No. 19 to No. 1 could be the reason for the perceived weight loss, which the wideout jokingly did not rule out.

“Probably, who knows,” Samuel said with a grin

Samuel looked great during the 49ers training camp, confirming his belief that he doesn’t have to worry about the weight loss.

Opposing defenses should still fear Samuel and his brute strength as a ball carrier, even though he is a few pounds lighter this season.
