Dead by Daylight spin-off The Casting of Frank Stone has a demo available now

If you’re looking for a bite-sized portion of story-driven horror for your evening, you can now quickly try out The Casting of Frank Stone thanks to the free demo.

The Casting of Frank Stone is the upcoming interactive game set in the world of Dead by Daylight and is a collaboration between slasher enthusiasts Supermassive Games and Behaviour.

The demo acts as a prologue to the main game itself, placing players in the Cedar Hills Steel Mill. Players take on the role of Sam Green, described as a “determined” police officer, and begin investigating the rather sad case of a missing child.

I tried it out last night, and the demo probably took me about 25 minutes to complete. It gave me a chance to find hidden collectibles, get a feel for how the game’s choice mechanics work, and just generally enjoy the unsettling atmosphere as we inch closer to fall and spooky season. I’ll probably try it again later and make some different choices to see how much I can change the overall outcome (which I won’t spoil here).

You can try the demo for yourself now on Steam. Please note that even if you finish the demo, your progress will not carry over to the full game upon release.

When that is, the expectation is: The Casting of Frank Stone will be released next month, on September 3, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Last week, the team shared a new feature trailer for the upcoming game, giving us a look at the Cutting Room Floor mechanic. Once unlocked, this feature allows players to backtrack to key story decisions and then follow alternate paths or search for collectibles that haven’t yet been found.
