“I am a fashion photographer based in London. My work focuses on blending soft, natural light with a focus on capturing the vibrant energy of youth subculture. I have a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling and strive to create images that exude playfulness and authenticity.

“This project explores the mix of bringing sport into fashion with trends such as ‘Blokette Core’, which has recently become popular on social media, combining football kit with hyper-feminine styling such as lace and bows. I wanted to see this as a way to highlight the push for inclusivity in sport and to show how these two opposing aesthetics are being explored in modern fashion, combining the fast movement of sport with the delicate poses and softness of the images” – Char Hodgkins

“Boxing is a sport that has interested me for the past five years of my life, so the privilege of designing shorts for boxers simply combined my two favourite things: fashion and boxing. These shorts, which I designed for JP O’Meara’s debut professional fight, were inspired by his love of West Ham, as well as his taste for a simple yet striking kit to stand out in the boxing world. The contrast of the minimal claret and baby blue satin kit, combined with the loud gold and white glitter on the kit’s name and logos reflected his vision. As well as the shorts, JP also had a matching jacket which he wore on his ring walk, and which he wore for both his first and second professional fights” – Liam Page

“I am a London-based image maker who uses styling, set design and photography to explore socio-cultural issues such as sexism, sexuality, self-expression and body politics. My passion for creating intentional and visually intriguing characters goes hand in hand with my love of hand-making and bespoke work – a distinguishing feature in my work.

Race against me began as a university styling project aimed at creating powerful, playful, sporty, female characters to comment on the historical exclusion of women from sport and to challenge the idea that femininity and sportiness are mutually exclusive. Initially inspired by the Viagra Mark Martin racing jacket, I manipulated vintage men’s sportswear into powerful ‘feminine’ looks. I used toy cars and various rubber materials to create playful props that carried a political message by resonating with the shared experience of many women who were socialised not to play with ‘boy toys’ growing up.

“Presented here are the BTS footage shot by several members of a collaborative team assembled to create an editorial shoot for Race against meand the final photos by photographer Mikaela Smila. “I am a portrait photographer from Amstelveen in the Netherlands. I combine my passion for drawing with photography and am constantly inspired by music and the world around me. These creative impulses help me to create unique images that capture a sense of movement and dynamics. By combining my creative vision with diverse subjects, I strive to create images that linger and inspire. My goal is to push the boundaries of traditional portrait photography and create images that leave a lasting impression.

Playground is a publication series that showcases a collective of dancers, highlighting local talent. As a dancer, I have always felt that there is not enough of us represented in the world of sports. It is a sport like any other that requires discipline, strength and endurance. Dance is a constant expression of identity. It is a vast collection of styles and offers space for exploration. Everyone brings their own unique way of moving to the playground” – Nalan

“I am a Bay Area-based film photographer who brings compelling stories and images to life. My photography illustrates how college sports can be a unifying force, providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and contribute to their communities. USC’s diverse student body and emphasis on Trojan pride provided creative spaces for me as an artist to showcase my school spirit” – Blake Becton
