Daniil Medvedev draws parallels between Sinner and Alcaraz

Among the tennis players who want to win the first title of the season, there is still Daniel Medvedevwho has not yet managed to win a trophy in 2024. The tennis season is coming to an end and there are now few opportunities for athletes to win a title.

The Russian tennis player, who surrendered to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open and Carlos Alcaraz in the final of Indian Wells and who will participate in the ATP 500 in Beijing this week.

During the presentation at Medoa Day, the former world number one spoke about the hypothetical semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz and the outlook for the week, also putting emphasis on Sinner.

“Whatever tournament I play, I want to win. If I want to win the tournament, I have to give my best from the first to the last match. It won’t be easy. But that’s the goal. The draw? When Sinner and Alcaraz play, you know you’re not number two, you know it’s going to be tough. In the semi-finals you have to play against one of them, if he makes it. However, I will try to improve my level step by step and hopefully I can show good tennis,” he analyzed.

On the possible clash with Carlitos, the Russian said: “We both come from the Laver Cup, so we have to win the first matches. It won’t be easy with the jetlag and everything else. Normally you prepare with more time. So now the preparation is short. Playing against Carlos is not easy, especially when he is in form. I saw him when we played the Laver Cup. He played well. We will have to put him under pressure.”

Medvedev will face Gael Monfils in the first round of the tournament. About his French rival, he said: “Every year everything changes. I remember the last time we played Indian Wells, it was a bit strange. It’s slow and difficult to play. Before that, there was Rotterdam 2019, that was a long time ago. It will be an interesting match against Gael.”

Medvedev then analyzed his negative performance in the Laver Cup.

“Honestly, it was a really fun experience. I know I was the only one on the team who got zero points. Everyone got at least one. But that’s okay, that’s why it’s a team competition. My team won, so that’s okay,” he said.

A few days ago, during the Laver Cup, the Russian spoke about his relationship with his two rivals and colleagues Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev, with whom he had some disagreements in the past. He analyzed:

“Sometimes we can say things in press conferences. We are not best friends, that’s the reality, but I think we all respect each other. So we are here, we support each other 100%. Especially with social media, some things get exaggerated. That’s what happened with me, Sascha and Stefanos. Sometimes we had fights. Sometimes someone said something in press conferences. And that’s okay. After a month we don’t even remember it. Here I think we support each other like never before, and that’s a funny feeling.”

On the same occasion, the Russian went into detail about his relationship with his coaches:

“It’s difficult to say what I’m looking for in a new coach in general, because I’ve been working with Gilles full-time for about five or six years and I’ve known him for ten years. I like working with him. What I’m looking for is mutual understanding and respect. Now I brought Gilles Simon with me to try to learn something new. I think I’m someone who sometimes gets distracted. During the games I’m very focused on myself, I don’t need coaching, etc. But here, honestly, there was a good energy and I think some of the things they said were good and I tried to do them. It just didn’t work.”
