Dangerous rip currents expected off Carlsbad coast

“Stay out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions,” the National Weather Service said.



CARLSBAD, CA — Dangerous rip currents and swimming conditions are expected along the San Diego County coastline, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a statement warning of the dangers facing beaches in coastal areas, including Carlsbad.

According to the NWS, the beach hazard warning is in effect from Tuesday morning through Thursday evening.

Dangerous rip currents are expected. Forecasters predicted waves between 4 and 6 feet, with sets of up to 7 feet on Tuesday and Wednesday. The highest waves will occur on southwest-facing beaches in North County, the NWS said.

The surf will decrease on Thursday.

“Stay out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions,” the NWS advises.
