After much offseason speculation about where Iowa State would rank among the top men’s basketball teams in the country entering the 2024-2025 season, the picture is now a little clearer.

On Monday, the Associated Press announced its preseason Top 25 rankings.

Iowa State men’s basketball opens the season as the No. 5 team, according to the AP Poll. It is the Cyclones’ first appearance in the AP preseason Top 25 since the 2016-17 season, when they started the year at No. 24.

The Cyclones climbed the ladder to finish last season as the eighth-ranked team in the AP poll, following their 29-8 season that culminated in a Big 12 Tournament title and an appearance in the Sweet 16. Their 29 wins last year were the second. -the most in a single season in program history.
