SUMMARY: With high school football season just a month away, the Gulf Coast Football Officials Association (GCFOA) is addressing the critical shortage of referees. Troy Soa from the association shared that they have expanded their recruitment efforts using social media and outreach to schools to encourage former players to referee. Despite the issues with last year’s coverage, they have increased their number of officials from 105 to 125. However, 40% of the current officials are nearing retirement, creating a need for new recruits. Training begins in June, with several clinics planned. Those interested can contact their Facebook page, GCFOA Mississippi, for more information.

It’s only a month until the start of the high school football season, but will there be enough referees to lead the team?
