“In some tournaments he doesn’t really feature for a while and then suddenly he gets 4/16, 4/20 and he’s scoring runs with the bat. That’s why he’s such an effective player in your side,” Fleming told ESPNCricinfo.

Fleming also commented on the efforts of captain Rohit and coach Dravid to maintain harmony and avoid ego clashes between Jadeja and Axar.

“India have Axar working as well. You can combine the two and get a pretty good result. You just have to make sure that from an ego point of view during those middle-overs, it’s someone who has the same skill set. It doesn’t affect either of them. You have to make sure that the management of the guy is pretty good. But you can’t leave Jadeja out. When the conditions are right, the pace he bowls is just right and it causes problems,” the ex-Kiwi star said.

“Sometimes you just have to wait a little longer and wait for your bowlers. Jadeja towards the end of the tournament,” he added.

Rohit has been quite clever in his use of Jadeja and Axar. When it comes to their batting roles, he has taken a flexible approach. In some matches, such as those against Pakistan and Afghanistan, Axar was promoted in the order, while in other matches Jadeja batted ahead of Axar.

When it comes to bowling, Rohit has shown a clear preference for Axar, particularly appreciating his effectiveness in the powerplay. This strategy has been particularly useful since the team moved to the Caribbean, where they opted for just two specialist pacers. Axar’s two overs towards the end of the Australian innings have been crucial in applying pressure. He has also made valuable contributions with the bat.

Jadeja hasn’t had a big impact yet. In the three chances he has had with the bat, he has not managed to reach double figures on any occasion. His bowling was also disappointing, with just one wicket in five innings.
