Crystal Palace raise asking price amid Newcastle interest

Crystal Palace are not making it easy for Newcastle United to sign Marc Guehi.

The England international was Eddie Howe’s main target in defence earlier in the transfer window. However, the Eagles have already made three offers, the latest of which was worth £65m. However, the Magpies have so far failed to achieve their target.

And with less than 24 hours to go before the summer transfer window opens, Newcastle United face a tough task.

However, it’s not just time that’s against the North East giants. According to a recent report from HITC, Palace chairman Steve Parish is demanding a whopping £75million in return for the highly-rated centre-back.

Despite weeks of talks to sign Guehi, Newcastle show no signs of closing the deal, and it remains to be seen whether the Magpies are prepared to spend so much money on one player.

Marc Guehi remains a sought-after transfer for Newcastle United.

However, should Howe’s side agree to Palace’s asking price, Guehi would immediately move into third place on the list of the Premier League’s most expensive defenders. The 25-year-old’s potential deal would put him on a par with Virgil van Dijk following the Dutchman’s move from Southampton to Liverpool in 2018.

During his three years at Selhurst Park, Guehi, who has just two years left on his contract, made 114 appearances in all competitions.

The battle for the England international is one to watch until tonight’s 11pm (UK time) deadline.
