Crystal Palace have made a £12million bid for Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix and a bid for Benfica defender Tomas Araujo.

The duo’s move comes amid a summer of changes within the Selhurst Park defence.

Palace have agreed the sale of Joachim Andersen to Fulham for £30million and are expecting a fresh bid from Newcastle for Marc Guehi.

Eddie Howe’s team have already had several bids rejected for Guehi, with Palace valuing the England international at £65million.

Guehi and Andersen have generally been the club’s first defensive duo in recent seasons, although Palace manager Oliver Glasner has also deployed the duo in a three-man defence in recent times.

Lacroix comes from France and was signed by Oliver Glasner when he was manager of Wolfsburg.

The 24-year-old has since made more than 100 appearances for the German club after coming through the Sochaux youth academy.

Araujo, 22, is an international with Portugal Under-21 and had a breakthrough year at Benfica last season.

Palace lost their opening game of the Premier League season 2-1 to Brentford on Sunday, with Guehi and Andersen both starting at the back despite speculation over their futures.
