Crash in Queens, New York: Dashcam video from Belt Parkway crash shows suspected insurance scammers backing into car

QUEENS (WABC) — A woman is warning other drivers after her dashboard camera apparently foiled an attempted car insurance scam on the Belt Parkway in Queens.

Asphia Natasha was driving on the busy highway on Wednesday morning when another car cut her off and caused her to slam on the brakes.

She narrowly missed hitting the car, but the other driver then put the car in reverse, stepped on the gas and crashed into Natasha’s car.

“I just treated it like an accident. You know, I asked them if everything was okay. We were able to exchange information. The man in the video told me that the woman was the driver and she didn’t say a word.” no English,” Natasha said.

But the incident video shows the backseat passengers trying to place a cover on the rear window, while the driver climbs into the front passenger seat before getting out of the car and pretending to be injured.

Everyone in the car then got out and started taking photos and videos of the damage.

“They were rushing to leave. They said, well, we have to go. We have to go pick up our baby. So when I turned around to look at the car, they just got in their car.” and left,” Natasha said.

After viewing the images, they think they have been scammed.

“When they take the videos to the police, they say quite definitively that they saw similar scams like this,” said Hudson Kuang, Natasha’s partner.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, fraudulent car accidents are more common in urban areas, where there are a greater number of vehicles and criminals target women driving alone.
