As Dak Prescott works his way back from a hamstring injury, Dallas Cowboys fans got an update on their star quarterback.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Prescott will meet with a specialist on Monday to get another opinion before deciding whether he needs surgery, which is reportedly “the most likely outcome.”

“But Prescott wants to play, sources say, and he is determined to exhaust all options before giving up his return this season,” Pelissero and Rapoport said. “He has been visiting doctors and having scans sent as the decision-making process continues.”

Prescott left the Cowboys’ Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury, which ESPN’s Todd Archer later reported was caused by part of Prescott’s hamstring tendon being pulled away from the bone.

Following the injury, Archer reported that Prescott faced a recovery time of six to eight weeks, while noting that surgery for the injury would end his season.

During an interview with 105.3 The Fan (h/t Jon Machota of The Athletic) on Nov. 8, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team was unsure if it wanted to place Prescott on injured reserve.

“He doesn’t want surgery. He wants to be on the field and go for it,” Jones said. “We’ll see how things go here.”

Executive vice president Stephen Jones later indicated he expected to place Prescott on IR.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones @1053thefan said they plan to place QB Dak Prescott (hamstring) on injured reserve.
“Right now I don’t think anyone knows if it’s going to be four weeks, six weeks or the whole season. We just have to keep monitoring that and see where it takes us.”

With Prescott sidelined, Dallas looks to Cooper Rush under center. The seventh-year player was 13 of 25 for 115 yards and an interception in relief of Prescott in a Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
