Courtney Cox hasn’t signed on for Scream 7 yet…

Courtney Cox is the only actress to have appeared in every Scream film since 1996. But despite reports that Cox had signed on for Scream 7 back in March, she hasn’t been definitively committed to reprising her role as Gale Weathers for the upcoming sequel. And she doesn’t seem to be in any particular rush to do so.

“I haven’t officially signed yet,” Cox told Variety. “I haven’t, but there will be a Scream 7.” Cox also said she doesn’t have a timetable for making her decision, but she’s being kept up to date on the script. “They’re rewriting all the time,” Cox said. “It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on.”

Cox also expressed her excitement for director Kevin Williamson, the franchise’s original screenwriter, who has been tapped to bring Scream 7 to the big screen. “You can’t do better than that choice,” Cox noted. “It’s going to be fun.”

So far, the only performer who has committed to returning for Scream 7 is Neve Campbell, the actress who declined to appear as Sydney Prescott for Scream 6 due to a salary dispute. But if Cox has her way, she’d like her ex-husband, David Arquette, to reprise his role as Dewey Riley, despite his on-screen death in the fifth film.

“I understand the reasons why they (killed Dewey), but whoa! Talk about a missed character,” Cox said. “Dewey is so beloved by Scream fans. They need to figure it out.”

The original version of Scream 7 was supposed to star Melissa Barerra and Jenna Ortega as the Carpenter sisters, Sam and Tara. However, Barerra was fired from the film following her social media comments about the war in Gaza, while Ortega pulled out of the sequel due to her Wednesday Season 2 schedule. Following those departures, Campbell and Williamson were approached to return for the next film.

Scream 7 currently has no release date.
