Copa America: Argentina beat Ecuador on penalties, reach semi-finals | NEWS.am Sports

Reigning FIFA world champions Argentina have reached the semi-finals of the Copa America, a football tournament held in the United States.

In the quarter-finals they met Ecuador in Houston and won on penalties.

Argentina and Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring in the 35th minute, and Ecuador and Rakow Czestochowa midfielder John Yeboah equalized in the first minute of injury time.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw and went to penalties, which the Argentinians won 4-2.

Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina and star player of Inter Miami, was the first to take a penalty for Argentina, but he missed and hit the crossbar.

In the semi-finals of the Copa America, Argentina will face the winner of the quarter-finals, Venezuela-Canada.
