Columbus Blue Jackets vs Seattle Kraken, latest game results

play

There’s one more chance for the Blue Jackets to win before a largely miserable road trip out West concludes Tuesday night at Climate Pledge Arena against the Seattle Kraken (6-8-1). The puck dropped at 10:10 PM ET for a game that can be watched on FanDuel Sports Network.

Here’s a timeline of preview information, updates, and in-game analysis:

The Blue Jackets sent the first eight shots of the game to Joey Daccord before the Kraken finally forced Elvis Merzlikins to make a save, which he did against Matty Beniers’ hard wrist from the left circle with 11:59 left in the first. Still no goals.

Game start: Columbus Blue Jackets 0, Seattle Kraken 0

The Puck is on the ice at Climate Pledge Arena as the Blue Jackets try to salvage at least one win over the Kraken during their four-game road trip to the West Coast.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Seattle Kraken: Goaltending matchup

Columbus: Merzlikins gets another start after suffering a loss to the Los Angeles Kings Crypto.com Arena on Saturday to start a back-to-back that ended on Sunday with Daniil Tarasov suffering a loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The two have split the net evenly, seven starts each, and their numbers are comparable. Entering this game, Merzlikins is 2-4-1 with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage with one shutout. He is 2-2-0 with a 2.76 GAA and .906 save percentage in four starts against Seattle.

Seattle: Joey Daccord makes his second straight start for the Kraken, taking sole possession of the top position, while Philipp Grubauer is out with an undisclosed injury. Daccord is 5-3-1 with a 2.79 GAA and .912 save percentage in nine appearances this season. He is 2-0-0 with a 3.00 GAA and a .909 save percentage in two career outings against Columbus.

Dante Fabbro makes Columbus Blue Jackets debut against Seattle Kraken

The Blue Jackets’ blue line will get another new look tonight as new defenseman Dante Fabbro makes his debut with the team. Fabbro, 26, was waived by the Nashville Predators on Sunday and brings an experienced right-handed shot into the mix.

Fabbro, who was drafted 17th overall in 2016, will start as a partner to veteran Jack Johnson on Seattle’s third defense pairing. He was left out of the regular playing mix in Nashville, which is why the Predators placed him on waivers. However, this will be Fabbro’s 316th NHL game and he is motivated to prove that his ceiling has not yet been reached.

“I’m going to a place where I know a few people and a few players,” Fabbro told the Dispatch on Sunday. “I think it’s a great situation, honestly, to have some people that I know and feel like they wanted me. That feels good as a player.”

Fabbro believes one of his biggest strengths is getting the puck cleanly out of defense, something that both Jordan Harris and David Jiricek have struggled with in that lineup spot as of late. They’re both healthy tonight, while Fabbro gets his first chance to prove himself with the Blue Jackets.

Columbus Blue Jackets lineup at Seattle Kraken

Notes on the line-up: Dante Fabbro won’t have to wait long to make his Blue Jackets debut. After claiming him off waivers from the Nashville Predators on Sunday, the Jackets put the 26-year-old defenseman straight into action as Jack Johnson’s partner on the right side of the third defense duo. Other changes include Kevin Labanc and James van Riemsdyk continuing Dean Evason’s game of musical chairs with the fourth line – Labanc back in, van Riemsdyk out – while Elvis Merzlikins starts in net.
