College Football 2024: B/R’s Top 25 Rankings After Week 1 | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats & Rumors

On one hand, that’s the meaningful part for Michigan. Losing to Fresno State would have been disastrous, but a win, no matter how unattractive, can lessen the bitterness after the game.

The opposing view is not so optimistic. Fresno State is a solid Mountain West contender, but the new-look Wolverines looked limited offensively for much of the game. Davis Warren averaged a paltry 4.5 yards per throw and Donovan Edwards rushed for just 27 yards on 11 carries, with Kalel Mullings instead running the ground game. Michigan only held a 13-3 lead in the fourth quarter before running away.

As expected, the Maize and Blue put a great defense on the field. The veteran unit surrendered 247 yards, dominated against the run and carried Michigan to its 30-10 triumph.

If the Wolverines want to beat No. 4 Texas next weekend, something about this offense’s narrative needs to change quickly.
