It’s safe to say that EA Sports’ College Football 25 was a huge success.

Circana Executive Director Mat Piscatella announced Wednesday that the game, which officially launched on July 19, “debuted as the best-selling game of 2024 to date and was the primary driver of both content and hardware growth across console platforms.”

He also noted that sales of College Football 25 in its first month alone were more than triple the total sales of NCAA Football 07, the previous best-selling college football game in history.

Few video games in recent history have been as highly anticipated as the latest college football game. It was the latest edition of a game that had not been released since NCAA Football 2014.

Fans waited ten years to play the game and bought it en masse.

This year’s version brought more than just improved graphics.

Name, image and likeness options have been implemented in college sports since EA Sports last released the game, meaning that in this year’s version, gamers had the opportunity to use current players by their real names.

This was never the case in previous titles, as gamers had to download player lists or play with generic players and names.

College Football 25 delivered real players, along with the pageantry, traditions, and iconic stadiums that largely distinguish the college game from the NFL. Add in actual crowd cheers, campus faces, fight songs, and more, and it’s no wonder the game sold as many copies as it did.

The fact that the film is coming out in the middle of summer probably helped, too, as it gave football-hungry viewers time to kill until fall arrived.

Fall is almost here, and college football season kicks off with Week 0 showdowns on Saturday. The ACC showdown between Florida State and Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, caps the opening series, with much of the rest of the country beginning their 2024 campaigns the following week.

It’s all geared toward the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff.
