Chelsea news: Ipswich set to sign Armando Broja on season-long loan

Ipswich are set to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja on a season-long loan in a deal that could become permanent.

The Premier League newcomers have included a clause which will see them sign the 22-year-old permanently for £30million if they avoid relegation.

Albania international Broja initially hesitated about moving to Portman Road but was convinced on Tuesday. The move is expected to go ahead on Wednesday, subject to a medical.

Ipswich have used the promotion windfall to bolster Kieran McKenna’s squad, with Omari Hutchinson joining on a permanent basis from Chelsea, along with Ben Johnson, Liam Delap, Arijanet Muric, Sammie Szmodics, Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste.

Broja took part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States but began training with Chelsea’s ‘loan group’ when he returned to London after being deemed surplus to requirements.

The homegrown star has struggled to get playing time at Stamford Bridge since injuring his anterior cruciate ligament in December 2022. He also had a disappointing loan spell at Fulham last season.
