Chelsea ended their poor pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Internazionale at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca’s men prepared for the coming season with three defeats in six games, with Lesley Ugochukwu scoring a late goal on Sunday that fooled them.

The Italian coach has fielded a strong team against the Serie A champions ahead of next weekend’s Premier League opener.

Cole Palmer, who was given an extended break after reaching the final of Euro 2024 with England, was given his first minutes in pre-season alongside Marc Cucurella and Nicholas Jackson.

However, the West London club fell behind after 26 minutes through a shot from Marcus Thuram from the edge of the penalty area.

Chelsea had most of the ball and had several attempts on goal, but failed to create any real chances against the Serie A giants.

During half-time, the home fans were introduced to the latest signing, Pedro Neto, whose £54million transfer from Wolves had been confirmed shortly before.

Christopher Nkunku forced Yan Sommer into a save in the second half, while Levi Colwill hit the post.

The Blues managed a draw in the closing stages thanks to a powerful strike from Ugochukwu after Inter failed to clear a corner.

Sunday’s draw meant Maresca’s team had won just once in pre-season play, a 3-0 victory over Mexican side Club America.

Chelsea lost to Real Madrid, Manchester City and Celtic and drew with League One Wrexham on their US tour.

The Blues will be looking to put aside their poor pre-season results when they host champions Manchester City next Sunday in their first Premier League match of the season.
