Moussa Sissoko scored for the first time on his return to Watford as Derby were beaten 2-1 at Vicarage Road, with Ebou Adams giving the Rams an early lead, but this was cancelled out by a spectacular effort from Vakoun Bayo in a first half which also saw Derby assistant manager Richie Barker sent to the stands.

Sissoko, the 35-year-old former France midfielder, struck in the 76th minute to complete a comeback that has seen Watford maintain their 100 percent start to the season, having won all three of their Championship games plus an EFL Cup tie. The hosts still levelled after Joe Rankin-Costello’s clever turn and shot in injury time before Sigurdsson curled home a classy winner in the 83rd minute, seven minutes after coming on. It was a second successive painful away defeat for Des Buckingham’s side, who had overshadowed the first half and should have scored sooner than they did, but Idris El Mizouni headed a free header wide.

Championship newcomers Pompey looked set for their first win of the season after first-half goals from Christian Saydee either side of Matt Clarke’s header for Boro. Mark Robins was full of praise for goalscorer Kasey Palmer after the midfielder’s second-half strike against his former club Bristol city earned Coventry a hard-earned 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate. Bristol City took a deserved lead in first-half injury time when George Tanner fired home from a corner, but Coventry improved after the break and hit back in the 76th minute. Robins said: “Kasey is Kasey and what you get is what you get. Sometimes what you get is incredible and sometimes it’s not – but he’s a top player.”

Price/quality ratio Manager Marti Cifuentes has indicated that Lyndon Dykes could leave the club after the Scotland striker was missing for their 1-1 draw against Plymouth. The visitors took a point despite playing most of the game with 10 men and finishing with nine. Immediately after Morgan Whittaker’s equaliser for Argyle cancelled out Michael Frey’s opener just before the half-hour mark, Adam Forshaw was sent off after receiving a second yellow card and in injury time teenage substitute Freddie Issaka was sent off for a bad foul. Asked why Dykes, who is uninjured, was omitted, Cifuentes said: “I just pick players based on availability. He wasn’t available.”

Neil Harris expressed relief after Mill wall got the first point of the season with a goalless draw against Hull. The well-disciplined visitors were determined from the start and deservedly left with a point. “I asked for a clean-sheet mentality,” said Harris. “We discussed the importance of returning to the coach with at least a point.”
