Celtic’s new signing Arne Engels arrives at Parkhead following a club record £11million transfer.

“He has a wide range of qualities that allow him to play in multiple positions in midfield, so we feel he is an excellent addition to the club. I think Arne’s style of play, his energy and his technical skills really fit our model of play.

“Celtic will always be our priority, but it is also fantastic that Arne is now getting full international recognition within a top team in Belgium, something he absolutely deserves.”

Trusty, who can play as a left-back and centre-back, has signed a five-year contract with the Scottish Premier League champions.

The 26-year-old began his MLS career with Philadelphia Union and Colorado Rapids before moving on loan to Birmingham City.

In 2023, he joined Sheffield United, where he made 32 Premier League appearances last season.

“I feel ecstatic. It’s just such a historic and amazing club, and it’s a club I’ve known since I was a little kid,” Trusty said.

“Growing up in Philadelphia, soccer wasn’t a very popular sport, but I knew Celtic, I knew who Celtic was. It’s a dream come true to be a part of this club and such a huge organization.

“The manager told me to give the best of myself, both off the pitch and as a teammate and on the pitch.

“He said he believes in me and everything I can do. It’s up to me and he’s going to provide an environment for me to thrive.

“I’m also looking forward to meeting all the lads. From what I’ve heard it’s a great environment around the club so I’m looking forward to it.”

McCowan ‘a very positive addition’

Luke McCowan was Celtic’s final signing before the deadline on the day he played, joining from Dundee for £1million on a three-year deal.

The 26-year-old, who scored in Dens Park’s Premier League opener against Dundee United, scored 10 times in 40 games last season.

Brendan Rodgers added: “We are delighted to welcome Luke to Celtic.

“He is a player with a lot of talent, energy and dedication. We are sure he will be a very positive addition to our squad.”
