Celtic interested in signing £5m Burnley captain

Celtic have a lot of options in the middle of the park at the moment. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t keeping an eye on the midfielders for the future. Odin Thiago Holm is someone who could potentially leave soon after failing to make his mark at Parkhead. On the other hand, Reo Hatate is another player who has been linked with a move over the years.

So Celtic must be ready in case players leave. And it appears they have a championship standout in their sights.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Josh Brownhill has been tentatively talked about in the Celtic Park corridors. It is believed that other clubs are also interested in the Burnley midfielder.

Brownhill’s current contract with Burnley is expected to expire next summer. He could therefore be available for a bargain in January and would also be free to sign a pre-contract agreement.

Brownhill is Burnley’s current captain and he also leads from the front. The midfielder has scored five goals as the club are in the thick of the promotion race at this point in the season. They are in fourth place in the table.

Of course, Brownhill would prefer to wait and see how Burnley’s season turns out rather than rush to a decision on his future. If they manage to gain promotion to the Premier League, it would only increase his chances of an extension at the club.

It remains to be seen how things turn out. It would be no good for Celtic to sign an experienced midfielder. In recent years, the club has mainly focused on recruiting young people. But if he is available as a free agent, that would be a good deal.
