Carlos Alcaraz has arrived in New York in the past few hours and has started training for the US Openwhere he will try to win his third consecutive Major. The young Spaniard won the Roland Garros and the Wimbledon Championships this summer and aims to become the youngest player ever to win five Grand Slam titles.

Carlitos also won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Pariswhere he was the big favorite for the gold medal. In the final, the 21-year-old from Murcia had to lose to a great Novak Djokovic who showed the best performance of his 2024. The former world number 1 paid for his recent efforts and was eliminated in Cincinnati Through Gael Monfils in the second round, playing one of the worst matches of his young career and showing some signs of nervousness. For the first time in his career, Alcaraz broke a racket and admitted that he did not feel well on the court.

The four-time Grand Slam champion won his first Grand Slam in New York in 2022, while he was defeated by a great Daniel Medvedev in the semi-finals. Alcaraz needs to achieve a great result at Flushing Meadows if he wants to end the season at the top of the ATP rankings.

Carlitos is ready for the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz’s goal is to win the 2024 US Open, but there will be many opponents who should not be underestimated. The Spaniard will be one of the big favorites, along with Jannik Sinner And Novak Djokovicwho will try to defend last year’s title.

During a recent interview with Tennis365, former world number 4 and top analyst said Tim Henman spoke about Carlitos: “To have won four Grand Slams on three different surfaces at the age of 21 is simply astonishing. With his game, his physique, his technique and his mentality, I think he will continue to win. He has a very good team around him and that is vital at this age.”

He also reflected on the favourites for the 2024 US Open: “Not being able to play on hard courts for the US Open won’t be a problem for Djokovic because he’s so good and we’ve seen in the past that he doesn’t need warm-up matches to play great tennis. His experience and confidence on the surface and the knowledge that he’s so hard to beat in the best-of-five format counts for so much. Also, the satisfaction of winning that Olympic gold means that he goes to New York with so much energy, enthusiasm and confidence. It might even free him up a little bit, knowing that he’s got that gold medal that he wanted so much.

That’s one of the reasons why I would put Carlos Alcaraz and Nole Djokovic above Sinner for the US Open at this point. Sinner has those doubts about injuries and although we know how well he can play when he is at his best, you have to be 100 percent fit to get through two weeks, seven matches of five sets. We just don’t know if Sinner is ready for that with this hip problem.”

Three favorites in NY

Carlos Alcaraz will have to find the right brilliance if he wants to achieve a great result in New York, where the weather conditions are often very complicated. The former world number 1 seemed to be in trouble in Cincinnati, where he showed his worst tennis, partly due to the speed of the courts.

“I felt like I was playing a different sport on center court than on the other courts. The ball was faster, much faster than on the other courts. I was warming up before the game and it was a completely different feelingI don’t know why. I don’t know what happened, why I felt like this. I couldn’t control myself, I couldn’t be better, so this match was impossible to win, and that’s it” – Alcaraz declared after his loss in Ohio.

He continued: “I always go to tournaments thinking that I have a chance to win, I want to show good tennis on the court, but I came with the idea that I would feel good, I know how to play on these courts, but I felt that the surfaces were completely different, like another sport. I want to forget this match and concentrate on New York. We will go there soon, and I will try to train and adapt to the courts. I want to forget this match because it is impossible to get anything good out of this meeting.”

The drawing ceremony will take place todaywhile Carlitos already attended a wonderful exhibition event at Arthur Ashe Stadium last night.
