The 21-year-old from Murcia did not show his best tennis at the US Open last year and lost to a great Daniel Medvedev in the semi-finals. The Spaniard has been using up a lot of energy in the last few months and did not look particularly brilliant in Cincinnati, where he was knocked out in the second round by French veteran Gael Monfils. The world number 3 has used these days to train intensively and wants to be ready for his debut matchCarlos suffered a minor ankle injury during training for a few days, but it turned out not to be serious.

Alcaraz is in great shape

Carlos Alcaraz has big ambitions in the second half of the season and wants to end 2024 at the top of the ATP rankings. The Spanish champion needs to achieve a great result at the 2024 US Open to come close to Jannik Sinner.

During an interview with SuperTennis TV, Carlitos revealed his biggest fear during tennis matches: “What I fear most will always be injuries. Anything can happen, but we try to protect ourselves to prevent it. The injury to my forearm worried me a lot; I didn’t know if I would recover well. I managed to play without fear again, but anything can happen.”

Alcaraz is ready for the tournament: “What excites me the most is to feel the love of the people of New York again. It is a very special tournament for me and the affection I receive is immense. I can’t wait to play the first match and show my best tennis so they can enjoy it.”

He also remembered the Olympic final: “Well, this is one of the most important finals of my career, of my life. I know that the Olympic Games are every four years, so I don’t know if I will have another chance to win the gold. I will definitely fight for it, the next Olympic Games. But you know, I had a very good player in front of me who fought for the same thing as me, and he deserves it. So a few days after the Olympics, okay, I realized I won the silver medal, it was a great achievement for me that I should be proud of.”

Carlitos wants to shine in NY

According to some insiders, Alcaraz has not yet fully processed the loss to Novak Djokovic at the Olympic Games in Paris. During the latest edition of her podcast, tennis legend Rennae Stubbs reflected on Carlitos’ current status: “It was such an anomaly to see Carlos Alcaraz lose his mind like that in Cincinnati. Our sweet little baby Carlitos, who is literally the nicest man.

I did a question and answer session with all the Cincinnati players and the question I asked every player was, ‘Who is the happiest and most loved person in the locker room?’ and everyone said Frances Tiafoe or Carlos Alcaraz. His brain is still shattered from losing the gold medal“I think he’s been playing a lot of tennis and he’s got a lot of pressure on his shoulders right now. I think he’s tired right now. Everyone who just played in the Olympics and played in Cincinnati was just mentally and physically exhausted.”

The Spanish ace is one of the most anticipated players in this edition of the US Open, which promises to be very uncertain. Alcaraz, Sinner and Djokovic are the three big favorites to win, but this tournament has been full of surprises in recent years.

During the press conference, the former world number 1 also commented on the controversy surrounding Sinner: “It’s a very difficult moment for himthat’s for sure. It’s complicated. I mean, I’m not going to lie, it’s complicated. But what can I say clearly about it? I mean, in English it’s going to be hard for me to explain myself, but I’m trying. Well, I believe in clean sport.

So I don’t know that much about it. You know, I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of things we don’t know, you know, within the team or within, you know, everything. But if they let Jannik play, it’s for something, they said he’s innocent. So that’s all I know and that’s all I can talk about.”
