Carlos Alcaraz is booed on Centre Court by Wimbledon crowd after backing Spain over England ahead of Euro 2024 final

Carlos Alcaraz will face Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Wimbledon final.

Carlos Alcaraz reached back-to-back Wimbledon finals on Friday after beating fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev in four sets. In a rematch of last year’s semifinal, the Russian came through on the Spaniard, who appeared to be struggling with his usually favoured forehand, to win the first set in a one-sided tiebreaker.

However, the reigning Wimbledon champion soon regained his mojo and completely dominated the match, outclassing and defeating Medvedev 6-7 (1/7), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. However, there were some unexpected scenes after the match.

During the post-match interview, when asked about the emotions ahead of the final, he said: “I know how I’m going to feel before the final, I’ve been there before.” Boos from the crowd followed his next comment when the Spaniard added: “It’s also going to be a very good day for the Spanish because of the European Championship final!”

Spain reached their first major final since winning back-to-back European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012 by beating France 2-0 in the semi-finals earlier this week. They will face England in the final in Berlin on Sunday. On the same day, Carlos Alcaraz will take on Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, a rematch of their 2023 clash, which the Spaniard won in a thrilling five-setter.

After the crowd’s booing, Alcaraz laughed and addressed them, clarifying: “I didn’t say Spain will win! I just meant it’s going to be a fun day! It’s going to be a tough match.”

Despite the two-minute altercation with the crowd, expect Carlos Alcaraz to be the crowd favorite when he takes on 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. The 37-year-old defeated Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets in a great tennis match between the two.

The final score is an understatement of the great rallies and points played between the two, with the Italian tennis star giving the Serbian a tough fight. The fact that Djokovic was able to withstand such a fierce show from Musetti suggests that he is at his best.

Earlier this week, in his fourth-round match against Holger Rune, Djokovic blasted the Wimbledon crowd for allegedly disrespecting him, saying: “You can’t touch me.” He later stormed out of a BBC interview.
