The last month and a half has been very intense for Carlos Alcarazwho has achieved excellent results. The young Spanish champion has the French Open and the Wimbledon Championshipsand became the youngest player ever to accomplish the feat.

The 21-year-old from Murcia was trying to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Parisbut his run came to a halt in the final against a great Novak DjokovicThe 24-time Grand Slam champion delivered his best performance of the season in the final last Sunday and rightly fulfilled the last big dream of his legendary career.

Carlitos played a great match against the iconic Philippe Chatrier, but he paid for the tension in the two tiebreaks and came off the court with tears of disappointment. During the press conference, the four-time Grand Slam champion said that he will work hard to win the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in four years.

The former world No. 1 has risen to a new level in the past two months, winning the last two Majors and establishing himself as the best in the world despite being the ATP’s No. 1 Jannik SinnerThe Italian has had some problems lately and had to miss the Olympic Games in Paris due to tonsillitis.

After reaching the final at the Olympic Games in Paris, Carlos Alcaraz decided to skip the Montreal Masters 1000 (last year he reached the quarterfinals in Toronto, losing to Tommy Paul). The young Spaniard is expected to return to the court in 2019. Cincinnatiwhich he will use to prepare for the US open.

Alcaraz rests

Meanwhile Alcaraz was photographed in Mallorcawhere he spends a few days of vacation with his brother Alvaro and a few friends.

The young Spaniard was very disappointed after losing the final of the Olympic Games in Paris – in which he started as a favorite against Novak Djokovic – but then realized that he had achieved a huge result. “Honestly, after the loss, during the interviews on the court, during the ceremony… It was only when I hung up the medal that I realized that it was a moment to enjoy. I had a very good tournament. Winning an Olympic medal is very difficult, and I have to realize that. The team also told me that there are many Olympic Games, that there are many great players without a medal, so it’s something we should be very proud of” – Carlitos said during the press conference.

Alcaraz was inferior to Djokovic in the decisive moments: “It’s different conditions, different surfaces, and it’s not the same playing individually as representing your country at the Olympics. It’s a whole series of things that are completely different from what we had at Wimbledon in London. I leave satisfied, with my head up for the match I played, I fought until the end. I have tried to find solutions. It was a very exciting match. At crucial moments I could not use the chances I had and Novak played at a very high level.

In the tiebreaks, in the break points against me, he raised his level when I couldn’t. That’s how exciting matches are decided. I believe I played at a very high level; now I have to learn to be more precise in those moments for the future. If you miss chances against a player like Novak, it will haunt you.

Carlitos must be proud

In this second part of 2024, the Spaniard will try to become number 1 again. Carlitos will defend more points than Jannik Sinner until the US Open, while the Italian has more points to defend in the fall. The indoor hard court is the surface on which Alcaraz struggles the most, as shown by last year’s results.

The current world number 3 was consoled by Novak at the end of the Olympic final: “He is enjoying his moment and I couldn’t exchange many words. On the net he told me that I would win gold one day and that I would work hard for it. My moment will come. He deserves to experience this moment with his family.

His tears show that he was really looking forward to it. It reminds me more of the one I lost in Cincinnati, where I had my chances and it was a great battle. All the matches against him are great battles and it is a spectacle for more people to watch tennis. These matches make you a better player and a better person. I will work with ambition to become better than Djokovic. The rivalry between Djokovic and Alcaraz could last for a while.
