Cancer patients to be honored and celebrated on Tuesday

There will be an event, Spike Out Cancer, to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. The event starts on Tuesday at 5pm in Tegels Park.

According to a five-year count by the Minnesota Department of Health, there are still more than 250,000 cancer patients alive in the state.

“This is a night to honor survivors,” said organizer Mary Theesfeld. “It’s so important to honor them.”

There will be over 35 prizes up for grabs and tickets will be available for $5 each for a chance to be a winner and support the cause. The drawing will be held in a corner of the shelter and ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

For more information and tickets, visit Strike Out Cancer’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/327206440432087.

From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., a meal will be served in the new Lion’s Club Pavilion in the park, followed by a program recognizing cancer patients and their caregivers.

A $10 donation is requested for the meal. Popcorn and A&W root beer floats will also be available.

Survivors join

Survivors are asked to stop at the survivor registration point, which will be set up in the corner of the shelter, closest to the kitchen/dining area.

Theesfeld will be there to welcome all cancer patients and guests.
