Canada loses to Japan in softball World Cup final, plays Netherlands for bronze

Kyoko Ishikawa’s two-run single highlighted Japan’s five-run fourth inning in a 7-2 victory over Canada on Friday at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals.

Canada finished the Super Round 1-2 and will play the Netherlands for bronze on Saturday, while Japan will face the number one United States for gold.

Hotaru Tsukamotom and Ayana Karoji also scored two runs for world number three Japan, while Yume Kiriishi also had an RBI.

Larissa Franklin hit an RBI double for Canada, while Caitlyn Wong scored on an error.

Miu Goto allowed no runs and struck out three in 4⅔ innings to earn the win for Japan. Mio Sakamoto earned the save with one earned run and three strikeouts in 2⅓ innings.

Dawn Bodrug allowed six runs on nine hits and struck out three in 3⅔ innings for No. 5 Canada. Katie Korstrom allowed one run and struck out four in 2⅓ innings in relief.
