Buy or sell the latest news on CM Punk’s return, Seth Rollins’ fate at SummerSlam and more WWE rumors

Professional wrestling may be in a quiet period right now ahead of major events, but the rumor mill didn’t get the memo.

Yes, WWE and AEW are busy preparing for their next big events, headlined by SummerSlam, but the buzz and speculation is as high as this summer’s record temperatures.

It only takes a quick round of rumors to hear about serious injuries to two of the sport’s top superstars and who or what could be added to the highly anticipated matchup for the hottest feud in professional wrestling.

To help fans keep track of all the fuss, here’s a rundown of the biggest rumors rolling in and whether each should be bought or sold.

On paper, it appears that CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will finally get their big match at SummerSlam, with Seth Rollins set to feud with the former later on.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats ), WWE has no plans to add Rollins to a Punk-McIntyre match at SummerSlam to make it a triple threat. WrestleVotes did report afterward that Rollins could be a special guest referee.

Easy to buy.

Punk and McIntyre orchestrated the best feud of the year, while the best in the world wasn’t even medically cleared. Ruining that essential physical match by adding a third one right now just wouldn’t make sense.

Given how personal the feud is between these three stars, it would seem logical that Rollins would factor in somehow, or perhaps post-match, to set up a three-way showdown at a later date.

Rhea Ripley is back…but how back?

Ripley recently returned in an attempt to turn the tide after The Judgment Day, taking aim at Liv Morgan and expressing his disappointment with Dominik Mysterio.

But according to PW Insider (courtesy of Ortman), fans want to temper expectations that she will get too physical in the ring anytime soon. The report says she won’t wrestle again until SummerSlam.

This one makes sense in a way that fans can definitely live with. Even if Ripley was 100 percent, there’s not much reason to have her in televised matches. This slow burn leading up to SummerSlam would be about building up the feud and faction storyline anyway.

And if the way WWE is handling Punk-McIntyre, with one of the three not being approved for a match, is any sign, the story could benefit as well.

Speaking of Punk, it looks like the quest for medical clearance is going well.

According to PW Insider (courtesy of Ortman), Punk worked in the ring at the WWE Performance Center to get clearance.

That lines up with the expected timing of his comeback from injury and puts him ahead of schedule for SummerSlam in early August. It also lines up with what fans have seen in terms of his brief physical presence over the past month or so when they’ve gotten involved.

Barring something unexpected, it’s reasonable for fans to expect the endorsement report to be made public soon, perhaps around the time WWE makes its match official at the biggest event of the summer.

It looks like WWE is going to waste no time with Bron Breakker.

The former star is a regular on WWE programming when it matters and that is expected to happen during the second biggest event of the year.

According to Meltzer (courtesy of Ortman), Breakker will get a shot at Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam.

Not only is it an easy buy, it’s also pretty exciting. Not only is the matchup solid in the ring and on the mic, there’s no easy way to predict which way WWE would go with the actual winner on such a grand stage.

Zayn is beloved by fans, but Breakker is impossible to ignore, so how WWE handles that and creates massive ripple effects throughout the mid-card scene should be interesting. It’s the latest in a string of easily believable rumors as the summer’s big event builds.
