Bryce Harper Shares Surprising Information About His Troubling Injuries

After pulling off a stunning comeback win in a big game against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, the Philadelphia Phillies were completely outclassed on Friday.

These next two games will largely determine what happens to the Phillies this season. They could suffer one of the most shocking upsets in Major League Baseball history, or they could clinch first place if they can figure out how to play like they did at the beginning of the year.

Right now, it just doesn’t feel like the same team that had the best record in MLB for most of the season.

Whether they can turn the tide and build momentum heading into the playoffs remains to be seen, but the most concerning thing for Philadelphia right now is the health of superstar Bryce Harper.

A report from Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reveals that Harper is currently dealing with multiple injuries that could impact his batting performance.

“Everything. The elbow. The wrist. It’s nothing crazy, but it’s definitely there,” he said. “I don’t want to make excuses for what I’m doing. You know what I mean? I just have to get through it. Hopefully it gets better, not worse. (The wrist) is finally at the point where I feel like it’s reaching a tipping point. My elbow is just, like, there.”

When people hear that something is wrong with his elbow, it raises some concern, as Harper is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery after the 2022 World Series.

However, he says his sore elbow has nothing to do with the surgically repaired ligament.

That’s a good sign, but Harper also indicated that he’s been struggling with his wrist injury since May, which could be a sign that he’ll be bothered by it into the playoffs.

However, the superstar downplayed the impact this could have in the playoffs and gave a surprising answer when asked how he can play through this and be effective.

“I just have to do it. That’s it. It’s part of the game. It’s part of the process of a season. I just have to keep going, understand that I’m very dependent on my body. I just have to go,” he said.

The Phillies will be in big trouble if Harper doesn’t become the MVP-worthy player he has been during their last two playoff games, especially given the poor performances of Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner to date.

Before the All-Star break, he was hitting .301/.403/.579 with 21 home runs and 61 RBI.

He hasn’t hit a home run since August 9. He hit just two home runs in August, dropping his batting average to .480.

But despite not being a huge threat, Harper has still found a way to be effective.

After going 3-for-4 with two doubles on Friday, he now has a .394 batting average, complemented by six doubles and three RBI in his last nine games.

Maybe that’s a sign that his wrist and elbow are improving.

Or maybe he’s just adjusting to the new reality he finds himself in, where it’s difficult for him to be a power hitter but he can still throw the ball like a star player of his caliber.

Either way, this is something to keep an eye on until the end, because the Phillies have other things on their minds right now than whether or not they’re going to win the division.
