Bryan Danielson defeats Shingo to advance in the Men’s Owen Hart Cup at AEW Forbidden Door

Bryan Danielson has made it very clear that this year will be his last year wrestling full-time, but he’s not done yet. With kinesiology tape around his neck, Danielson walked down the ramp at UBS Arena to face NJPW’s Shingo Takagi in the semifinals of the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. In the battle of Dragon vs. Dragon came out on top with Danielson and verbally tagged out Takagi to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

After much wrestling and mat work to open the match, Danielson and Takagi went strike-for-strike. Danielson’s injured neck proved to be a point of contention during the match, and despite kicking out a clean Made in Japan from Takagi, “The American Dragon” was nearly put away by Takagi’s targeted attack. However, the match changed when Danielson reversed a triangle hold powerbomb attempt from Takagi, and shortly afterwards an armbar caused Takagi to verbally capitulate. After their match, Takagi showed grudging respect to Danielson before leaving the ring.

With the win under his belt, Daniel has advanced to the Owen Hart Foundation tournament. Danielson is now scheduled to face PAC in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament on the upcoming episode of “AEW Dynamite: Beach Break.” Should he win on Wednesday and then go on to win the final, Danielson will be eligible for a title shot at All In 2024, which will be held at Wembley Stadium for the second year in a row. Danielson has openly stated his desire to perform at Wembley despite the fact that his contract is about to expire; he missed last year’s event after breaking his arm in the main event of Forbidden Door 2023, where he defeated Kazuchika Okada.
