Brittany Cartwright files for divorce from Jax Taylor

Vanderpump Rules alum and The Valley star Brittany Cartwright has filed for divorce from Jax Taylor after five years of marriage, We weekly can confirm.

According to the documents obtained by UsCartwright listed their official separation date as January 24. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. She is seeking primary legal and physical custody of their 3-year-old son, Cruz, with visitation rights for Taylor. Cartwright does not want the court to award spousal support to either of them.

The filing comes just days after Taylor completed his 30-day inpatient treatment for his “mental health issues.” His rep told Us In a statement, “Jax has spent the past 30 days in treatment and will be returning home later this week. It has been an emotional month for him and he is most looking forward to spending time with his son.”

Bravo cameras are also currently filming season 2 of The Valley.

Taylor and Cartwright hinted at problems in their marriage earlier this year before officially confirming their divorce.

“I think we need to address some of the rumors — a little bit. I’m not going to go into it too hard because, you know, some people deserve to have their privacy,” Cartwright said during an episode from february from their joint podcast “When Reality Hits.” “But I will say — marriage is hard and people go through ups and downs all the time and that’s totally normal. Sometimes people need their space (and) sometimes they don’t.”

A few days later, Cartwright noted on the podcast that she had moved to another home while she and Taylor “spent some time apart.”

“Marriages are really hard and I’ve had a particularly rough year,” she said on Feb. 29. “Jax and I are taking some time apart and I’ve decided to move into a different home to create some space for my mental health. I won’t go into too much detail right now because this is still really hard to talk about.”

Cartwright and Taylor broke up just weeks before they returned to reality TV. The Valleya spin-off of Vanderpump Rulespremieres in March on Bravo and follows their life in the suburbs with their son Cruz, 2.

The former couple met in Las Vegas at the Gold Spike Lounge in 2015. “The place where it all began! @caramarietabor and I met @musickillskate then @mrjaxtaylor came in and got my number at the bar. Lol memories!” Cartwright captioned a photo outside the bar on her Instagram Stories in July 2019.

In 2016, Cartwright joined Taylor in season 4 of Vanderpump RulesThe duo later got their own spin-off show, Vanderpump Rules: Jax and Brittany Win Kentuckywhich aired in August 2017. However, four months later – during the season 6 premiere of Vanderpump Rules that December – fans watched as Cartwright learned of Taylor’s affair with his co-star Faith Stowers. Stowers told exclusively We weekly at the time she and Taylor only dated once – though she claimed he wanted it to be an “ongoing relationship.”

Despite Taylor and Cartwright’s challengesthe couple got engaged in June 2018. A year later, in June 2019, walked to the altar at a castle in Kentucky with Lance Bas lead the ceremony.

Following their wedding, Bravo viewers watched as Taylor questioned their marriage on the show, wondering if they had jumped into the marriage too quickly. “I think about my wedding, it just happened so fast,” Taylor asked Stassi Schroeder in a March 2020 episode of Vanderpump Rules“Did I do the right thing?”

Although fans wondered if their marriage was in trouble, the duo soon took the next step in their relationship: in September 2020, they announced that they were expecting their first child, a boy.

Three months later, the couple announced that they would not be returning to Vanderpump Rules for another season.

“We are excited to take this time to focus on our growing family and share our new endeavors with you,” Cartwright wrote via Instagram at the time. “It’s time to move on… we’ve had a good run. It doesn’t make sense anymore.”

Taylor and Cartwright welcomed their son Cruz in April 2021.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than I am right now, everything in life seems so insignificant,” Taylor wrote on their son’s Instagram debut that same month. “I’m crying just writing this. I have the most beautiful son a man could ever ask for, he is an absolute blessing from God. I just want to say how amazing my wife has been through this whole process, it has not been an easy pregnancy for her but she has been amazing right up until the end. I have always awwh (sic) for Brittany but I have fallen in love with her all over again.”
