Brief: one killed in accident

Phagwara: One passenger of a car was killed on the spot on Saturday evening when a speeding Canter hit him from behind on the national highway. The Canter driver managed to escape after the accident. The deceased was identified as Chander Bhan of Deol Nagar, Jalandhar. Police have registered a case against the Canter driver and sent the body to the local civil hospital for post-mortem examination. OK

Ankush gang member held

Phagwara: Police have arrested an absconding member of the infamous Ankush Bhaya gang, which was busted in September with the arrest of seven members. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the suspect was identified as Karan from Rishi Nagar, Nakodar. This gang was linked to major criminal syndicates including Vikram Brar, Goldy Brar, Rinda Baba and Ravi Balachoria. Khakh said Nakodar gang leader Ankush was arrested along with his six accomplices in September. More members of this gang go into hiding and raids are conducted to arrest them. OK

Three arrests for farm fires

Phagwara: Police have arrested three villagers and arrested two for stubble burning. The suspects were identified as Baljit Singh of Kot Badal Khan village, Kulwant Singh of Uppal Jagir village and Surjit Singh of Uppal Khalsa village. The SHO said police have also arrested two villagers for stubble burning. They have been identified as Ajaib Singh of Bhandal Himmat village and Tarlochan Singh of Pandori village. OK

Man arrested for blocking traffic

Phagwara: Nakodar police have arrested a resident of Jalandhar on charges of blocking traffic and harassing people, three years after registering a case. The suspect has been identified as Mohamad Aaludeen, alias Chand, of Mohalla Khudian, Jalandhar. The accused had organized a dharna, leading around 50 protesters, at Mehatpur Chownk on Nakodar-Nurmahal road on September 1, 2021 and harassed people. A case was registered against the accused under sections 143 149 (unlawful assembly), 283 (obstruction in public), 294 (obscene words in public) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. OK

Venter held on with ganja

Phagwara: Police arrested a ‘drug trafficker’ on Saturday evening and seized 250 grams of ganja from his possession. The suspect was identified as migrant Bumbum Singh, currently living in Bhagatpura locality in Phagwara. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. OK
