Best Pitching Performance of the Week

  • The best performance of the week was pretty clear. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over the Cardinals, Frankie Montas threw seven shutout innings while allowing just one hit and one walk. Montas also pitched pretty well on Sunday, though he was brought down by one big inning (and some bad umpiring). A shoutout also to Joël Payamps, who continued his streak of scoreless outings with three more shutout innings, and Aaron Ashby, who looked great in Triple-A Nashville before pitching two scoreless innings as a reliever on Sunday afternoon.

Best hitting performance of the week

Jackson Chourio He continues to lead the team offensively, with a team-high .850 OPS, and led the team with eight hits and three extra-base hits.

Notes on injuries and roster changes

  • With the Brewers facing a tight bullpen roster heading into their September 1 roster expansion, we’ve seen some strategic changes. Elvis Peguero was sent to Triple-A Nashville in a move that was a bit harsh, but understandable from the team’s standpoint in a move to Trevor Megill activated from the wounded list.
  • Also in the bullpen, Nick Mearswho was beaten up a bit this week, was placed on the IL with what the team is calling “right forearm inflammation.” The aforementioned Aaron Ashby was recalled from Nashville in his place.
  • Enoli Paredes is also set to return, having been sent on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Nashville, but he won’t be allowed to return from the 60-day IL until September 1.
  • Finally, Blake Perkins was activated from the 10-day IL after a short period, which Tyler Black back to Nashville.
