By Gary Baines – 14-07-2024

Aurora’s Davis Bryant, a former Colorado State University star who was named CGA Player of the Year in 2019, earned his first professional victory on Sunday.

Bryant closed with a 6-under-par 64 to win the Wyoming State Open by three strokes at Airport Golf Club in Cheyenne. The victory was worth $10,000.

“Incredibly happy indeed,” Bryant said in a text message. “I’m super happy and pleased with my play this week and proud of the hard work I’ve put in over the last few months. I feel like I’ve been knocking on the door these past few months and my first win close to home is very special. Having my family there to support me made it even more special as they haven’t been able to watch many of my professional golf tournaments up until now.”

The two-time Southwestern Amateur champion went 64-62-64 in Wyoming, making two eagles, 18 birdies and two bogeys for the tournament. In Sunday’s final round, Bryant carded an eagle on the second hole to go along with five birdies and a bogey.

The Coloradoan finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Peyton Shore of Saluda, S.C., who closed the final round with a score of 68.

Firestone’s Jake Chesler, a Fort Lewis College golfer, and Cheyenne’s Klinton Krieger (both 67-68-65) tied for the lowest amateur ranking at 10 under par.

The senior professional division was led by Scott Foster of Gold Canyon, Arizona (69-69-67), who was four points ahead of Scott Petersen of Parker (73-68-68).

Sunday’s 62 was Clark’s fifth official PGA Tour score of 64 or lower in 2024.
