Bowling genius Bumrah’s total score is ‘nil’

Bridgetown (Barbados), July 1: Jasprit Bumrah, the chief architect of Team India’s 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the winner of the ‘Player of the Tournament’, also has an interesting track record.

He became the first ever T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament without scoring a single run, having been dismissed for a duck in the very first ball he faced against Pakistan. That was of course the only time he batted in the tournament, records revealed.

Bumrah is perhaps the only player among the men and women in the T20 World Cups so far to have won the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award without scoring a single point. However, such occurrences are not new in ODI cricket.

In 2007, during the ODI World Cup, Australian legend fast bowler Glenn McGrath won the ‘Player of the Tournament’, but in 11 matches he did not bat even once.

Another Australian, Mitchell Starc, also had a similar record in the 2015 ODI World Cup. Starc faced three balls in three innings and his total score in the tournament was zero.

Apart from this interesting record, Bumrah was the real force in India’s T20 World Cup crown with his stellar bowling skills. His economy rate in the tournament was a conservative 4.17, the best for anyone who bowled more than 100 deliveries. Apart from giving away 29 runs against Australia, Bumrah was exceptional in the eight matches he played.

But that’s not all, the Indian bowling genius picked up 15 scalps in 29.4 overs he bowled. But gave away only 12 boundaries and two sixes. That is certainly commendable.
