Boulder man allegedly involved in two shootings in one week faces upgraded attempted murder charge – Boulder Daily Camera

A Boulder man allegedly involved in two shootings last week was charged with attempted murder on Tuesday.

John Paul Gaudreau, 35, is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of attempted second-degree murder, vehicular evasion, violation of a protective order and possession of a weapon by a prior offender.

Gaudreau was initially arrested on suspicion of three counts of attempted second-degree murder, reckless endangerment and violation of a protective order.

However, the attempted murder charge was upgraded when he filed his complaint on Tuesday.

He is currently being held on $750,000 bail.

According to an affidavit, Gaudreau was approached at his home at 1717 Baseline Road in Boulder after his vehicle was spotted by police.

Officers discovered that the white Honda had evaded officers several times when they attempted to conduct traffic stops.

The same Honda was seen on video surveillance at 9 p.m. on June 28 where a shooting occurred in Boulder, where a person was hit in the shoulder but did not receive medical attention. The same vehicle was again caught on video at 2 a.m. on July 3 where another person suffered a gunshot wound, the affidavit said.

Officers later learned that a woman witnessed the June 28 shooting. The woman told police that Gaudreau began harassing her while he and she were on the phone, discovered her location and showed up at her workplace.

According to the affidavit, the woman said she was with another man when Gaudreau arrived in his white Honda. She began walking toward Gaudreau’s vehicle when Gaudreau fired his gun.

The woman continued walking toward Gaudreau when Gaudreau said to her, “You think I won’t shoot him?” according to the affidavit. She then heard a second shot, turned and walked away as the man she was with was shot in the shoulder.

In an interview with police, Gaudreau admitted that he was driving the white Honda on June 28 and fired shots out of the passenger window of the car. He explained that the first shot was a warning shot, followed by two more shots.

When asked if he intended to kill any of the people involved in the shooting, Gaudreau replied in the negative, but he understood that when shooting someone there is always a chance of death.

Regarding the shooting that occurred on July 3, Gaudreau explained that a friend told him that someone had tried to steal his bike. Gaudreau then came to the area where the bike had been stolen when a fight broke out, according to the affidavit.

Gaudreau said he saw someone pull out a knife and shot him in the upper left chest. He said he was using the same Glock 22 he had used in the previous shooting and was driving the same white Honda.

According to the affidavit, a nearby video surveillance system captured footage of Gaudreau’s car and the flare from the gunshot.

Gaudreau stated at the time of his arrest that he threw the gun he used in the shooting over a fence near his home. While canvassing the area, police found a Glock 22 pistol that matched the firearm Gaudreau said he used in the shooting.

A preliminary hearing will be held on August 1 at 9:00 a.m.

Gaudreau’s booking photo was not immediately available.
